Learning Outcome

Learning outcome 1

Throughout the course I did increase my awareness of my own skills and abilities. This was mainly done throughout various activities such as Jungle trek where I had to walk throughout a jungle. Here I did realise that, it is important to do more exercise in order to increase my physical skills in order to take new, much more harder challenges. In other activities such as winter guiding in Thailand or Croston’s charity work I did find out that the best way how to improve my involvement in these activities is to be more organized when working in team. Overall this wouldn’t been find out if the activities weren’t organised and successfully completed. As it can be seen in other learning outcomes and activities undertaken. This, self awareness evaluation helped me a lot to work on the improvement of weaknesses faced. As a future area for growth will be more involvement in service based activities such as Rotary club which has international potential to help those who are in need internationally.

Learning outcome 2

In order to undertake new challenges, I did chose activities which I never had experience before. For example in Diving I had opportunity to develop new skills . this was reflected by obtaining a PADI open water certification. When starting with Rotary club, I never had leadership experience before, however this was successfully developed throughout the course. In activities such as Travel guiding, I never had experience how to lead group of unknown people thus it helped me to overcome my personal barriers and do my best to overcome the problems that occurred during various activities. There were couple creative activities such as Halloween face painting where I finally managed to try promote service throughout creative way, this was something new to me and I did find out, that there is a creative artistic potential in me, however on a basic level. Overall I find out that it is necessary to make the first step if my personal goals want to be achieved and that there is still new life challenge that have to be undertaken in order to be successful in future.

Learning outcome 3

In this section I had to organize, plan and initiate new activities. This was quite hard at beginning since I had no previous experience with organizing events and I was more likely to be involved with such events that have been planned by someone else. However I did organize and set up Rotary international in our school where I had to organize various activities throughout whole year. This was quite challenging at the beginning for the reasons mentioned above, however various evidence is proving, that this was done successfully. (f.e. Halloween face painting, Orphanage trips, 24hours swim) another initiated activity was done with support of teacher where I had to teach kids French, the main key skill learnt was in creativity in each lesson to attract attention of students . The similar way of teaching was done in GOLF where I had to use my previous skills to teach beginners. Overall the initiating and collaborating with others developed sense of higher flexibility for future activities in sense of being more organized, specific and demanding i.e. motivating members and trying to get maximum out of their skills. How ever there is still long way to improve the skills of initiating new activities in order to get stronger confidence with dealing with unknown people and constrains that may occur.

Learning outcome 4

The evidence of working collaboratively was mainly correlated with most of the activities undertaken. For example Rotary club, International award, Diving, 24h swim, Piano lessons, Jazz band, theatre sports. Etc. This was done throughout active involving students in task set up in order to achieve certain goals. Sometimes it was hard to involve all students since some of them were showing lack of motivation or interest, I tried to find a alternative way of creating enthusiasm in those focus groups in order to maximize outcome task efficiency. Sometimes teachers shown lack of involvement in group discussions, thus I did try to involve those teachers by random discussion in order to find their opinions on certain activity or goal. Finally I did develop confidence when taking collaborative actions. Mostly I did so, throughout small discussions in groups , where every member can talk to each other on a same conversation level without barriers. I found this quite efficient however once again this wasn’t applicable in direct outdoor activities where collaboration skills were shown by working in partner groups of 3 where I did work more faster helping each member of the group. Overall I think that this skill of cooperation with the others was developed and shown successfully. Expressing overcoming difficulties occurred.

Learning outcome 5

The evidence of showing perseverance and commitment was shown in all activities over 2 year IB course. In order to motivate and provide smooth productive long term run of activities ether self initiated or joined, I had to stick to a rule Finish your job and get rewarded , meaning that the reward was more likely to be psychical where sense of achievement after completing activity is the key point. This can be described throughout physical perseverance in Diving, travel guiding, Swimming team, INTERNATIONAL award, Jungle track, golf, 24h swim, Buthan service trip etc. The creative and artistic skills were developed mainly throughout perseverance and constant improvement in French language, Piano lessons , Guitar lessons. As a results of consistency in activities was success in concerts of our band and excellent performance of our swimming team in various competitions for example. Overall This wouldn’t happen without punctuality and self motivation throughout fulfilling activities meaning work hard - you will be rewarded.

Learning outcome 6

The issues of global importance were mainly shown in service based activities such as Rotary club, charity walk, cross bay swim, Buthan service trip, 24h swim etc. . This developed my sense of perception on actual trends around us however ti was quite challenging and difficult to see places where people live below standard minimum however this was overcome when dealing with orphans for example. This gave me quite good feeling about myself which developed sense of personal confidence in dealing with issues of global importance. I was also facing several difficulties when trying involve more people in such a activity, also workload at yr. 13 didn’t permit me to be more involved in more internationally based activities to emphasise global importance. Nevertheless this doesn’t change the fact that there is still vast poverty around us we have to try to help those who are in need how ever one service based activity will not cover the global phenomena, thus as a future goal, I will try to focus on service based organizations in more depth involving more people to help those who are in need. Hopefully the skills learnt throughout CAS programme will help me in future when making decisions.

Learning outcome 7

Ethical implications were considered throughout various activities undertaken. For example in Jazz band piano or other artistic compositions there was factor of ethical behaviour affecting implication of music texts and songs played in order to promote service based activities when performing, this is also correlated to service based activities where ethical implications were on first place when deciding or starting new activity such as Pattaya orphanage or running Rotary service club overall. When finishing activity such as 24 hours swim, it was important to write reviews of activity in school magazine, in order to promote activity undertaken throughout school. The ethical implications were also considered when communicating with the members of a activity and teachers leading activity. These ethical issues implied were mainly related to communication amongst students of different ethnicity, religion, beliefs and social background. I was trying to have same approach to every person possible, however sometimes the problem incurred when there was a misunderstanding in language when trying to explain certain point of view, the “language handicap” was finally overcome, and If any phrase did upset someone personally, the immediate excuse and explanation took a place. Overall this helped me to consider ethical behaviour throughout the course. The previous falls will hopefully help me to prevent misunderstandings occurring in a future.

Learning outcome 8

I did develop new skills in various activities to support this fact I can state Diving and advanced open water diving where I was finally awarded by open water diploma, In International award I was awarded by silver award showing my perseverance and developing new skills thanks to successful completion of activity. In Joga I learnt to be patient and more focused, that helped me in my study habits overall and approach to various sport and creative activities. In guitar and Jazz band I had a opportunity to develop my musical skills on higher level which was quite rewarding since I had never faced some musical fields before which was sometimes causing difficulties in understanding certain way of composition or tab finger grief. I also had a problem to practice for certain task because of school work load. The success of reaching objectivities was mainly done throughout systematic approach and consistency in practice and attendance. This enriched my personal self esteem since I achieved and mastered objectives. Hopefully this will help me on long term when using my skills gained.

Overall I feel that CAS gave me quite a lot of experience and developed my skills in fields of Creativity, Action and Service dramatically. I believe that this will open me door to be a better, open minded and fair global citizen being a role model and inspiration for those who ether haven’t had opportunity to develop their skills or were too focused in one way.

Thank you

Oliver Steindler
